Historical butterflies and insects

The other day I read a newspaper article about naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace. I was not very interested in his evolution theory, but more in the illustrations that surrounded the article. Drawings of organised insects, birds and maps, all made halfway the 19th century. The recently created website http://wallace-online.org is like a digitalised old encyclopaedia, including pages full of these beautiful prints.
